- This essay aims to investigate how the Municipality of Ängelholm interprets the concept of sustainable development in the planning process of a new urban area called Stationsområdet and if said area will contribute to the sustainable development of the municipality. municipality and Ängelholmshem, the first building company to develop housing in the new urban area. According to this definition, sustainable development is achieved through ecological modernization making weak sustainability the method to measure when
something is sustainable or not. The other findings in the essay is that even though Stationsområdet most likely won´t contribute to a sustainable development on a global scale due to conflicting interests and issues arising with ecological modernization are not taken into account in the planning process. However, Stationsområdet will contribute to a sustainable development within the municipality by the municipality making a strong statement for sustainable development, spreading the importance of acting more sustainably in everyday life and business. Stationsområdet can also be used as an example for future urban development of what works and what can be done better. (Less)
