The aim of this study was to get descriptions of family counsellors work and descriptions of their work methods in the meeting with children and youth that have been sexually abused. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six family counsellors in three different municipalities. The result of this study shows that the work of family counsellors is highly complex requiring high standards where collegial support and supervision is paramount for their work and motivation. Furthermore, the result shows that there is a need for specialised education about sexual abuse, however the most reliable knowledge about work methods in these cases comes from field experiences. The result also implies further studies are needed. (Less)
