- Abstract
- Members of three competitive basketball teams (N = 34, male: 14, female: 20, Mage = 17.94, SDage = 2.07) were observed in a within subject-design to reveal the relationships between the leaders’ expressed emotions, the followers’ emotions, and the followers’ performance with an attempt to provide practical implications and further details to the relevant theories. The leaders showed three different types of emotions and in line with that three conditions were created: negative, neutral, and positive. The Self-Assessment Manikin and camera recordings were used as measuring tools. The expectations on the different effects of the different emotions and the direction of the relationships were partly confirmed. The leaders’ behaviors do seem to... (More)

The Self-Assessment Manikin and camera recordings were used as measuring tools. The expectations on the different effects of the different emotions and the direction of the relationships were partly confirmed. The leaders’ behaviors do seem to affect the followers’ emotions and performance and certain relationships between the follower’s emotions and performance were revealed too. Additional mediating factors of the phenomena and the underlying mechanisms of emotional contagion are to be revealed by future research. 95% confidence intervals were set for the statistical analyses.
