- Abstract (Swedish)

(Less) - Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to examine if corruption, freedom of press and the ginicoefficient
can affect the degree of underpricing in European countries. A deductive approach and a quantitative method is used to fulfil the purpose of the study. The study uses cross-sectional data and performs three separate multiple regression analyses, one for each of the independent variables. The theoretical framework of this study is based on previous studies within the field. Among these are information asymmetry, the efficient market hypothesis and
the signalling hypothesis. Also, research concerning the effects different degrees of corruption,

The study uses cross-sectional data and performs three separate multiple regression analyses, one for each of the independent variables. The theoretical framework of this study is based on previous studies within the field. Among these are information asymmetry, the efficient market hypothesis and
the signalling hypothesis. Also, research concerning the effects different degrees of corruption,
freedom of press and the gini-coefficient have, has been used. The data set consists of 336 initial public offerings in 16 European countries, Turkey included, executed between 2013 and 2017. Capital IQ has been used as the
main source of data. The index for the country specific variables has been collected from Reporters
without borders, Transparency International and World Bank.
This study could not find a significant relationship between the dependent variable
underpricing, and the independent variables corruption, freedom of press and the ginicoefficient.
Hence, it can not be ensured that the chosen variables can affect the degree of underpricing
in the examined countries. Although, since the analysis and previous research implicates
that a relationship between underpricing and the variables should exist, the study cannot conclude
that it does not. (Less)
