Abstract
The aim of the conducted study was to analyse how care managers are using their discretion and the frontline practice in needs assessment and decision-making regarding elderly people applying for special forms of accommodation for older persons in need for special support, so-called “retirement home” (Social Services Act, 2001:453). The study was done with qualitative methods with semistructured interviews with four different care managers. The aim of the conducted study was to analyse how care managers are using their discretion and the frontline practice in needs assessment and decision-making regarding elderly people applying for special forms of accommodation for older persons in need for special support, so-called “retirement home” (Social Services Act, 2001:453). The study was done with qualitative methods with semistructured interviews with four different care managers. The study showed that care managers have greater latitude for investigate what needs the elderly have, but they are limited in decision of efforts to the needs. The study also showed that your care needs have to be 24 hours a day to have the right to move to a retirement home. These were directives that care managers get from the organization. The result showed that there was a difference between physical and mental needs, where physical was of greater importance. (Less)
