Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence of early signs of exhaustion and work engagement as well as the degree of sense of coherence among social secretaries in southern Sweden. In addition, we examined the association between these constructs. The present cross-sectional study was based on a web survey and entailed 100 social secretaries from 24 municipalities in southern Sweden. Lund University Checklist for Incipient Exhaustion was used to measure exhaustion, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-9 was used to determine work engagement and a 13-item measure of Sense of Coherence was applied. Prevalence of exhaustion signs showed that 84% had no or negligible signs of exhaustion and 57 % rated low work engagement. The... (More)

The relationship between early signs of exhaustion and work engagement as well as sense of coherence showed a positive association between these variables. Social secretaries estimated incipient exhaustion to a lower degree than the normal population. The social secretaries of this study showed less signs of incipient exhaustion than previous research showed. Due to the low response rate generalization should be done with caution. (Less)
