Abstract
There are many types of traffic studies. One of these is a so-called conflict study. Today when you do a traditional conflict study, you usually analyze traffic safety based on video data, which is an observation of the real situation. A traditional conflict study was made by Svensson & Ekblad, (2018) at a crossing at Heleneholmsstigen/Ystadvägen in Malmö, where a bicycle crossing was rebuilt. The goal is to investigate whether a conflict study can be made in a simulated environment that consist with the traditional conflict study.

From the intersection at Heleneholmsstigen / Ystadvägen video analysis has been used to obtain traffic data, which in turn is needed for the simulation. PTV Vissim was used to build simulation models similar to the crossing before and after the reconstruction, where previously collected data was brought in. Then the traffic situation in PTV Vissim was simulated with the SSAM module running. The number of conflicts needed to conduct a conflict study is given by the SSAM module. When the number of conflicts has been compiled, they are compared with the results of Svensson & Ekblads report (2018).

There are differences between the results from the simulated conflict study and the traditional conflict study. The simulation indicates that the situation in the intersection becomes more secure for cyclists after being rebuilt, while the traditional conflict study shows that the intersection becomes less secure. The number of conflict points are reduced in the simulation, while that is not the case in the traditional conflict study from the same location.

When comparing and discussing the results of conflict studies, it is clear that simulation programs like PTV Vissim and the SSAM module cannot replace the traditional conflict study, at least not in this study. In other words, there is uncertainty just in this case to use a simulation program such as PTV Vissim and the SSAM module for a conflict study. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)

(Less)
