Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine youth entry to the Swedish labor market. Young people´s own experiences of their entry into the labor market were in focus as well as their experiences regarding the importance of social actors through their path. The study was intended to highlight the impeding and enabling factors that a youth can face along their path to the labor market. This has been made possible in the study by interviewing three youth in a city in southern Sweden, aged 18-24, with the narrative method. The aim of this study was to examine youth entry to the Swedish labor market. Young people´s own experiences of their entry into the labor market were in focus as well as their experiences regarding the importance of social actors through their path. The study was intended to highlight the impeding and enabling factors that a youth can face along their path to the labor market. This has been made possible in the study by interviewing three youth in a city in southern Sweden, aged 18-24, with the narrative method. The purpose was to interview youth who have a previous experience of being in a job search process. The youth who were interviewed had in the end managed to get a job and it was precisely their experiences about the job search process that was intended to be highlighted in the study. The study´s theoretical starting point has been a social constructivst perspective and connection to shame and stigmatization. With the theoretical starting point, youth entry into the labor market has been regarded as a social construction that entails stigmatizing structures in the society and a sense of shame along the path. Overall, youth´s experiences of their entry into the labor market could be highlited and discussed in the study. The youth in the study emphasized their lack of work experience as an obstacle to entry into the labor market. They also highlighted their own responsibility and motivation as important factors in entering work. (Less)
