Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Abstract
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a name for a high – quality public transport system that was developed in the middle of the 19th century and became known after it was successfully implemented in the city of Curitiba in Brazil. In Sweden, BRT is used as a complement to other public transport, while in large cities around the world it functions as the frame of the public transport system. For BRT in Sweden there are guidelines and different criteria that indicate which standard level the system has. Depending on the condition the city has and which standard level the system is introduced with, different results can be achieved. For BRT in Sweden there are guidelines and different criteria that indicate which standard level the system has. Depending on the condition the city has and which standard level the system is introduced with, different results can be achieved. In Helsingborg, a BRT solution that will replace line 1 has been planned since 2014. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the underlying goal of the HelsingborgsExpressen and to study the effects introduction of BRT contributes to Helsingborg ́s city based on accessibility, traffic safety and travel behavior. The goal is to develop knowledge about how Helsingborg ́s city will be affected in connection with the commissioning of the HelsingborgsExpressen. A survey has been developed to gather information on how new travelers see how the change in accessibility, traffic safety and travel behavior that the project entails. In order to take note of the line stretch design with regard to traffic safety and accessibility. Two forms were developed which were used in observations of different locations along the route. As an addition to the observations, an interview was carried with planners at Helsingborg Stad who worked with the project. The result of the case study has led to in-depth knowledge of the project HelsingborgsExpressen. The goal of the HelsingborgsExpressen is to increase the proportion of public transport trips and contribute to the goal with 22 million trips in 2022 achieved. The introduction of the HelsingborgsExpressen will increase accessibility for public transport, pedestrians and cyclists, and limited accessibility for other vehicles. Traffic safety will increase for all road user groups as well – adapted solutions have been designed for each location. All road user groups have been allocated visible spaces. The design and placement of the new express line is expected to result in an increased number of trips based on the attitude to the HelsingborgsExpressen and the urban development along the planned rote stretch.
