Abstract (Swedish)

(More)

(Less)
Abstract
This study aims at gaining a clearer picture of what the concepts of register and register breaks mean. The research questions the study sought answers to are: ”What has research come about today with regard to the concepts of song registers and register breaks?”, As well as: “What do vocal instructors think today of the concepts and how do they use them in their teaching?” as well as: “How does the gap between the research's definition of registers and register breaks compare with the use of the same concept by active singers?”

The study is based on qualitative methodology. Through semi-structured interviews, material has been gathered from three vocational educators who have been active for at least 10 years. The search for relevant... (More)

The study is based on qualitative methodology. Through semi-structured interviews, material has been gathered from three vocational educators who have been active for at least 10 years. The search for relevant and as new research as possible has been conducted to get as clear and up-to-date picture of the meaning of the concepts as possible.
This study shows that research and vocal instructors do not have a complete picture of what the concepts of registers and register breaks mean. However, research agrees that registers can mainly be explained at the laryngal level, but that, in particular the female voice, is still not fully explained. Even though the vocal instructors do not always use the same concepts, the study still shows that they use very similar methods.

Proposals for further research are to look at how to teach, through which exercises, to access the various registers. Especially the middle registers. (Less)
