The housing market of today is still based upon the idea of an autonomous nuclear family with a lot of private property and assets, even though this may no longer be the reality. Different lifestyle situations, prioroties and needs requires different forms of housing. An important amount of the Swedish households consists of only one person. Family constellations shatters and single parents, stepchildren and every other week-solutions demand new solutions for housing, for exemple in terms of flexibility. New immigrants are in need of context and networks to integrate more easily. Lonliness is a reoccuring phenomenon in different groups in our society, both among elderly and single parents. Would it be possible to find some possibilies and solutions in cohousing? Despite the in-
dividualism that is said to characterize today’s society there is still dreams of the collective and being able to live in closer connection to others.
Whilst previously mostly being connected to green dreams of living in collectives in the countryside, cohousing of today is an urban and wider phenomenon that have the po- tential of attracting a larger mix of people. Cohousing allows for people to live compact, together, in the city center and to share and make use of different services and resources. New forms of lifestyles and an increased interest in sustainability have made different forms of cohousing an interesting housing type for the future.
Trends concerning sharing and collaborative economy have also put older ideas of co- housing on the agenda. This expands beyond simply housing to other places in the city that are not primarily based on consumption but instead are built upon meetings, creativ- ity and community. (Less)
