Abstract
This study had the aim to approach the question of how the different traits in OCEAN get affected by norms more specifically normative belief, motivation to comply and identification with the referent as described in the Theory of Planned Behaviour. The method of choice was a digital survey, constructed as a modified IPIP, which was divided by self-estimation, descriptive normative belief, injunctive normative belief and motivation to comply as well as identification with the referent for each personality factor in OCEAN. The injunctive norms is what the referent thinks that you should do, while descriptive norms is how the referent herself acts.

Several personality traits showed moderate but significant correlations to the descriptive and injunctive norms. Extraversion was significant in both norms while openness and agreeableness correlated with only descriptive norms. Although they did not show significant correlation to injunctive norms, the p-value was close to significant. Neuroticism and conscientiousness did not show any correlations.
The personality factors that showed significant correlation all have one thing in common: they are very visible in a social context. Many social cognitive theories are discussed but no definitive connections can be made due to the nature of this study. (Less)
