Purpose: Study the use of IOMA in Skånetrafikens interorganizational relationships. Both which methods are used and also if it is either formal or informal control that dominates the management.
Methodology: A single case study performed at Skånetrafiken using a qualitative research method and collecting data mainly through interviews.
Theoretical perspectives: IOMA based on a framework developed by Dekker (2004). Also complementary theory based on Interorganizational relationships, Interorganizational cost management (IOCM), PPP, Value-chain analysis and Formal/Informal control mechanisms.
Empirical foundation: Data collected through interviews with Skånetrafiken and their partner Nobina. Documents, reports and contracts were also used for collecting and compiling of data.
Conclusions: The study found that IOMA was used by Skånetrafiken to govern their interorganizational relationships. The control mechanisms used tend to be of formal character in relation to Dekkers (2004) findings where social control and trust were extensively used to govern the relationship. However our findings relate to previous research where public organizations tend to be rather formal in its governance. (Less)
