The focus of this paper has been to examine how the term politicization have been used in the debate around the Swedish Gender Equality Agency (Jämställdhetsmyndigheten). The analysis identified four dominant issues in the debate. These are as follows; the department is considered to be politicized because its tasks are of political nature. The department is perceived as politicized because it works with women related issues, the department is considered to be politicized because it does not operate from a neutral view of gender equality and finally, the department is considered to be politicized because the concept of gender equality itself has been politicized.
