- Abstract
- This study centered around the benefits and risks linked to waterfront development in relation to climate adaptation strategies in the Swedish municipality Ystad. In order to do this a variety of theories concerning climate adaptation, the benefits of coastal building and the risks of coastal building was used to create a comprehensive framework for the study as a whole. As for the methods, a document analysis of the municipal comprehensive plan for the city was used in combination with an interview with the city architect in order to broaden the plan's perspectives. But also gives an insight into how planning for climate adaptation and waterfront development is combined to both enable the protection of low lying part of Ystad’s historical city center whilst also creating a new district in the city next to the sea.
