- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to increase knowledge about the way social workers at women's shelters describe abused women's contact with financial aid services within the social welfare system. The study was based on four semi-structured qualitative interviews with social workers working at women's shelters, who in their professional role had contact with the financial aid services. - The aim of this study was to increase knowledge about the way social workers at women's shelters describe abused women's contact with financial aid services within the social welfare system. The study was based on four semi-structured qualitative interviews with social workers working at women's shelters, who in their professional role had contact with the financial aid services. The social workers worked at different women's shelters located within the swedish region of Skåne. The study found that social workers at women's shelters described women having different types of contact with their social worker at the financial aid services. They described that some women received a lot of understanding and support from the financial aid and personal relationships gained there. But the study also showed that the knowledge of VAW varies between municipalities and social workers working with financial aid. The asymmetric power in their relationship influences the women's feeling of being supported or not. The study showed that it was described that women are still suffering from the abuse even after they left the abusive man. The support for the women with economical consequences of the abuse is lacking and needs to be developed further. (Less)
