Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate, and create an understanding of, how accounting staff experience that their perceived job insecurity is affected by digitalization and automation.
Theoretical perspectives: The study is based on an adapted version of the Integrated Model of Job Insecurity, which is used to analyze the respondents perceived job insecurity. Furthermore, the study is also based on current research on digitalization, automation and job insecurity.
Methodology: A qualitative interview study where eight semi-structured interviews were conducted to answer the study's question. Furthermore, directed content analysis has been carried out to analyze the collected empirical data.
Empirical foundation: The empirical data of the study are collected through eight interviews, where the respondents were financial managers, accountants and financial assistants.
Conclusions: The results from the study indicate that job insecurity among accounting staff is affected by digitalization and automation, but that it varies to what extent and what the underlying reasons for this are. The study shows that the perceived job insecurity varies between work experience and hierarchical position, where those with shorter experience and lower positions tend to experience higher job insecurity.
