- Abstract
- “Freedom of alliances in peace aiming for neutrality in war”. Those are the classic words of the Swedish security policy. But are they still relevant? Has a change taken place? And what does it depend on? This essay examines whether the Swedish security doctrine has changed over time and whether the security doctrine depends on a realist and constructivist perspective in IR-theory. It is a comparative case study of the Swedish security doctrine in four cases - 1975, 1990, 2005 and 2020. Since the Social Democrats have held power in all four cases, both the social democratic party platforms and the Statement of Foreign Policy have been studied with a content analysis method.
