This bachelor thesis aims to investigate how planning for children in a contemporary urban context can be understood in dialogue with entrepreneurial placemaking approaches. The thesis asks how planners consider children in the planning of the area of Brunnshög and what role the planning considering children has in the ‘placemaking’ of the area. To achieve the aim and to respond to the research questions, the thesis undertakes a qualitative case study research design, analyzing planning documents and interviews with planners involved in the planning of Brunnshög, Lund. The thesis found that features that are considered to create child-friendly areas, such as networks for walking, playful green spaces and livable housing, also can be seen as part of a placemaking process in which an identity of the competitive and attractive city is actively constructed. Hence, by answering the questions on how children are considered in the planning process, as well as what role this plays in the placemaking, the thesis concludes that the planning of Brunnshög consisted of child-friendly features that are related to entrepreneurial placemaking processes. In sum, the planning process aimed not only to make the city attractive for children, but also to adults and companies in a global context. (Less)
