Purpose: The purpose of the thesis was to explore and contribute to an understanding of the practical approach in how and why to involve employees in corporate sustainability.
Research questions: What practical solutions and strategic tools can be applied to implement the sustainability strategy throughout the organization? How do employees perceive their opportunities to participate in and influence corporate sustainability? What role do the employees and their active commitment have in the sustainability strategy?
Methodology: This study was conducted through a multi-method qualitative research approach with the aim of gaining subjective experience and deeper insights into Vestas' corporate sustainability. More specifically, a combination of a case study, semi-structured interviews, and a document analysis of Vestas' corporate reports was used.
Conclusion: As a result of the research, this thesis has shown that without a sufficient comprehensive commitment to corporate sustainability from employees, it becomes difficult to implement sustainability strategies. Therefore, through internal communication, the organization must ensure that sustainability initiatives are supported in all parts of the business. Furthermore, this study has concluded that employees' determination to participate in and influence the organization's corporate sustainability is highly dependent on leaders' supporting, inspiring, and encouraging employees to act in line with the sustainability strategy. Additionally, an organizational structure for sustainability is required that endorses employees' pro-environmental behavior. (Less)
