Abstract
Purpose. The emergence of the FinTech phenomenon disrupted the financial status quo and spurred the development of technologies that facilitate the delivery of financial services in a novel and groundbreaking manner. This study aims to trace the impact of founding teams' initial characteristics on future growth.

Methodology. Using a dataset of 155 UK-based Fintech firms, this dissertation employs three regression models to evaluate the effects of the founding team's four initial characteristics on the future growth of the firm. These attributes are the previous experience of its founders, its size, the average age of its founders, and its gender composition.

Findings. The study's findings conclude a meaningful association between... (More)

Findings. The study's findings conclude a meaningful association between Fintech's founding team characteristics and future growth in three out of four hypotheses that we assembled. The data offers supportive evidence of a favorable correlation between the entrepreneurs' prior entrepreneurial experience and the success of their companies. In contrast, it was discovered that the presence of female co-founders and the lower average age of the team had a detrimental impact on several elements of venture growth. The original team size had no meaningful influence in either way.

Implications. The findings indicate that various initial features of the founding team may lead to numerous types of future growth.

Contribution. Several previous studies elaborated on the impact of the characteristics of the founding team on the firm's future performance. However, none of the previous empirical studies have mapped the effect of those characteristics solely on growth for Fintech startups incorporated in the UK's ecosystem. Hence this paper adds insights into the complex association between the founding team's structure and future startup’s success. (Less)
