(Less)

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to create further understanding of the relationship between a more equal gender distribution and financial performance.

Research questions: How is the relationship between equal gender distribution and financial performance of employees in a tech company understood? What additional perspectives can gender and motivation theory contribute to the understanding of financial performance?
Theoretical perspectives: Gender theories such as the biosocial construction model, gender processes, and gender barriers are used to examine gender relations in financial performance. In addition, internal and external motivation is added as a perspective on whether employees at the tech company are motivated by the circumstances of the phenomenon.
Methodology: This phenomenological-hermeneutic case study is based on a qualitative method. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews with employees at several different levels and departments. The data was analyzed by sorting, reducing and arguing. The sorting was largely inspired by the balanced scorecard and formed the structure of the empirical work.
Empirical evidence: The empirical evidence shows the experiences that employees at a tech company have of the relationship between equal gender distribution and financial performance. The experience shows the importance of culture and dynamism, and that this is, in most cases, reflected by a more equal gender distribution. The respondents mainly talk about an indirect connection between this and financial performance.
Conclusions: The study's respondents consider the relationship between gender equality and financial performance to be indirect rather than direct. The relationship is seen as a product of good dynamics created by a characteristically diversified workplace, with a warm and inclusive culture. Gender and motivation theory can contribute with additional perspectives for the financial performance where the emphasis is placed on culture, dynamics, well-being and acceptance. This is created through different perspectives and characteristics of men and women. There is, in this context, a relationship between gender distribution and financial performance. This has contributed to an additional perspective that can complement previous research in the field. (Less)
