Abstract
The purpose of this study has been to examine how different countries around the globe represent the ‘problem’ of men's violence against women in policy documents and handbooks. The study has been done from an intersectional perspective with inspiration from Carol Bacchi's WPR method, from which we chose three questions that were used for our analysis. Two countries were selected because of their position as “tough on crime” (USA & Great Britain) and two countries for their usage of “Scandinavian exceptionalism” (Norway & Sweden). The empirical data used in the study has been collected through purposive sampling where we have specifically searched for policy documents and guidebooks regarding men's violence against women from our four... The empirical data used in the study has been collected through purposive sampling where we have specifically searched for policy documents and guidebooks regarding men's violence against women from our four chosen countries. Results have shown that representation of the ‘problem’ of men's violence against women varies between countries. This in turn influences the effect of representation and the measures suggested in the policy documents and handbooks to prevent violence. (Less)
