Abstract
Despite the current recognition and discussions surrounding corporate sustainability, the topic remains highly complex, with significant uncertainties regarding how to integrate sustainability into daily operations. Hence, it becomes increasingly important for managers to develop a comprehensive understanding of how to implement corporate sustainability strategies. Therefore, this thesis investigates the role of various implementation factors within this process. The purpose of this thesis is to enhance the understanding of how managers experience the implementation factors of corporate sustainability strategies in their daily operations. Using a single-case study approach, this empirical research is built upon semi-structured interviews, involving managers from different departments within the case company.

The findings of the thesis resulted in an empirical framework containing seven different implementation factors: organizational structure, organizational culture, leadership, employee motivation, communication, management control, and learning. Moreover, the findings provide additional insights into each implementation factor and suggest a hierarchical structure, showcasing their relevance and how to address each factor. More specifically, findings reveal that the implementation factor of organizational structure emerged as the most crucial element influencing the process of implementing corporate sustainability strategies, highlighting its top-level position within the finalized empirical framework. Further, the implementation factors of organizational culture and management control are positioned at the mid-level of the framework, illustrating their role in facilitating the work of the lower-level implementation factors.

In addition to prior research, these findings provide a more comprehensive understanding of the implementation process of corporate sustainability strategies and the role of the implementation factors within this process. Moreover, these findings can assist managers in more effectively implementing corporate sustainability strategies, thereby incorporating corporate sustainability into their daily operations. (Less)
