Person-Centredness of Performance Measurement in Swedish Primary Care: National Initiatives in Regional Accreditation Documents
(2024) BUSN79 20241Department of Business Administration
- Abstract (Swedish)
- This study examines how national healthcare initiatives focused on person-centered care are put into practice within Sweden's healthcare system. It analyses how these national policies are represented and implemented in accreditation documents across six Swedish regions—Skåne, Västra Götaland, Jönköping, Halland, Kronoberg, and Östergötland. The research uses qualitative document analysis to explore the implications of decentralization on the consistency and effectiveness of these person-centered care initiatives.

The research uses qualitative document analysis to explore the implications of decentralization on the consistency and effectiveness of these person-centered care initiatives.
The findings show significant regional differences in how national initiatives, such as the National Patient Experience (NPE) Survey, the Swedish National Quality Register for Bipolar Disorder (BipoläR), and the Swedish National Diabetes Registry (NDR), are adopted and prioritized. These differences are linked to the varying priorities of regional authorities, highlighting the complexities of maintaining uniform healthcare standards in a decentralized system.
The study gives insights into how stakeholder dynamics and decentralization shape the implementation of healthcare performance measurement systems, offering insights to improve alignment with regional practices. By addressing these challenges, the study provides insights into improving the equity and effectiveness of person-centered care across diverse healthcare settings. (Less)
