- The crucial effects of climate change have made the question about sustainability even more urgent and important in today's society. To avoid further consequences, and create a sustainable future for future generations, we need a green transition. A key part of the green transition is the transition to sustainable, renewable energy which also is essential for phasing out the use of fossil fuels. To avoid further consequences, and create a sustainable future for future generations, we need a green transition. A key part of the green transition is the transition to sustainable, renewable energy which also is essential for phasing out the use of fossil fuels. Blekinge is a region that has economic, social and environmental issues, which makes its work with sustainability even more important. Therefore this study aims to investigate the possibilities of solar park implementation in Blekinge, as well as how an implementation of solar-parks could contribute to or affect Blekinge´s sustainability. The research questions for this study is the following; In what ways can the implementation of solarparks impact sustainable development in Blekinge? And, Which locations in Blekinge are most suitable for the placement of solar farms, both now and in the future? Firstly the possibility to locate solar parks in Blekinge, on open land or low-worthy agricultural land, is investigated through a GIS-based multicriteria analysis. Thereafter, the potential is evaluated in parallel with a document analysis, based on the study´s self-constructed analytical framework, in order to understand the region´s visions, goals, and perspectives related to its energy supply and sustainability. The result from the GIS-analysis showed many suitable areas for localization of solarparks from the studies chosen criterias. Based on the document analysis, many visions and goals for sustainability could be identified. The earlier research shows that there are predominantly positive benefits of implementing solar parks for sustainability in Blekinge. The study therefore points out that the implementation of solar parks in Blekinge could contribute positively to the region's sustainability in all sustainability-aspects, both on open land and on low - worthy agricultural lands through agrivoltaics.
