Abstract
This chapter deals with ways in which digital technologies can be utilized to work with moving media in hybrid ways. I will shortly present a practice of what I call probing. It is an extended, evocative, and open-ended process of art making and research. I will present a selection of projects that explore notions of noise, blend modes, and live cinema. I will discuss notions of noise, the provisional character of audiovisual renditions, and multi-layered compositing. I will also discuss how film can be not just screened but also performed live in a more open-ended manner.
