Towards a Meeting of Minds? : When Participatory Researchers engage with a Health Care Community of Practice
(2008) CUexpo 2008. The third national Community-University Exposition 2008. University of Victoria, Victoria, BC, Canada- Abstract
- A collaborative action research initiative was conducted in collaboration with professionals in a set of clinical research and development networks in a local health care system in Sweden. This is an examination of the interaction between engaging in collaborative action research practice and the power of tradition in health care.
From observations and interviews with the coordinators of the networks it was found that they regarded knowledge as something that percolates from the top to the bottom of the organisations. By encouraging dialogue and critical reflexivity, the coordinators’ views were challenged and resulted in a more complex view where learning from experiences and practice became the focus. The coordinators became more aware that they are a part of a process that is about development, learning and change.
The research process as a whole started traditionally and gradually turned into a more dialogical process. The apparent change could be seen as a satisfactory expected result, but from a critical reflexivity perspective this could be questioned. The paper will explore how different frames of references actually informed the process. (Less) - Abstract (Swedish)
