Education as a Human Right. The What, the Why, and the How

Abstract
Proceeding from an analysis of the social embeddedness of education, and how vulnerable the value of it is to the effects of precarious life situations and inequalities, in combination with how the right to education features in human rights law and discourse, this contribution argues that the obligation to ensure this right equally for all inevitably obligate states to address detrimental social background conditions as part of what the right to education requires.
