Mosquitoes : A butt–brain axis for controlling reproduction

Abstract

The conversion of a blood meal into viable offspring is a central physiological challenge for female mosquitoes. A new study has found that rectal pad cells function as a peripheral neuroendocrine hub, sensing feeding-related signals and regulating reproductive investment, linking the hindgut to reproductive decision-making.
