Review of microstructure modeling in solid oxide fuel cell electrodes

Abstract
Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) are widely studied for their advantages specially at high temperatures. The microscopic chemical reactions that occur in the cells have a strong influence on the cell performance although not much research has been done in this field yet. In order to do so, a numerical model of the microstructure of the electrodes, where the reactions take place, is needed. Different numerical models can be found in literature without a clear division between methods and some ambiguities. Consequently, it is necessary to review and summarize the general features of the available methods and try to decide which model is the best for further implementation and simulations of the detailed chemical phenomena. In this study,... (More)

Consequently, it is necessary to review and summarize the general features of the available methods and try to decide which model is the best for further implementation and simulations of the detailed chemical phenomena. In this study, different models found in literature are presented and their important features are summarized and analyzed. Discussion on which model can suit best the chemical phenomena is also presented. (Less)
