The aim of this article is to show that at the end of the 13th century there’s a change of approach to the sophistical syllogism, going from a definition based on its formal features to a definition based on its pragmatic features. The first position is put forward by Simon of Faversham, during the 1280s, probably during his stay in Paris. The second position is put forward by Radulphus Brito, the last of the great Parisian Masters of Arts of the 13th century. In their positions we will find, then, a crucial disagreement regarding the nature of the sophistical syllogism.
