- This chapter scrutinizes the European Union (EU)’s response to the crisis engulfing the European security order, within the broader context of global value contestation. Focused on the aftermath of Russia’s incursion into Ukraine, the chapter delineates the EU’s role evolution, transitioning from a security promoter to a pragmatic actor and responsible stakeholder in global governance. This shift reflects not only the exigencies of the crisis but also member state interests, EU identity and its relationship with the United States.
