Festival Directors are not the only Music Curators : Thoughts on Curating Musical Context

Abstract
Using the example of SÅLE - Et dansekunstverk i tre deler, performed at the Ultima Contemporary Music Festival in Oslo in September 2022, this article argues that festival directors are not the only curators in New Music, that we need to realise there are already more curators, and that this recognition will help us rethink our approach to curating in New Music. The article then explores some of the practical operational consequences of this change in thinking about New Music and its context.
