This chapter presents a dual-purpose exploration of contemporary bibliotherapy and Shared reading practices in Sweden and Finland, focusing on their expansion and trends. Drawing from existing Nordic literature and research, as well as interviews with practitioners, the first part offers an overview of these evolving practices. This overview sets the stage for the second part, a dialogue with literary trauma studies, where the ethical dimensions of literary representations of trauma are being explored. The chapter aims to initiate a dialogue between the practical field of bibliotherapy and theoretical literary trauma studies, thereby enriching the understanding of the relationship between trauma, literature, and recovery. By probing the complexities of identification and empathy in bibliotherapy through a literary trauma studies lens, the chapter invites reflection on bibliotherapy practices and how literature and creative writing can facilitate healing.
