The international cooperative test of the critical degree of saturation method of assessing the freeze/thaw resistance of concrete

Fagerlund, Göran LU (1977) In Materials and Structures 10(58). p.231-253
Abstract
The article describes the execution and result of an investigation of the "'ScR-method'" of freeze/thaw-testing concrete. The investigation formed part of the work within RILEM Committee 4-CDC. Five laboratories participated. Two concrete types were tested," one without and one with entrained air. At each laboratory the critical degree of saturation, SCR,

was determined by freeze/thaw-experiments and the capillary degree of saturation, SCA P, by water absorption experiments. The deviations in the Sc# s and ScAe: s obtained are small. Hence, the quantitative judgement of freeze/thaw resistance made possible by calculation of the difference between ScR and SCA e was almost the same at all laboratories (fig. 16a, e, fig. 17).
