Report on the Revision of the Swedish Academy Dictionary – and the Search for “Old Neologisms”

- In 2023, the first edition of the diachronic-contemporary Swedish Academy Dictionary (SAOB) was finished after more than 130 years of work. The dictionary contains over 500,000 entries and describes the Swedish language from the 1520s to the present day. However, a consequence of the extended time of publication is that a significant part of the content, in particular in the first volumes, was out of date even by the time of completion of the full edition. Headwords had become obsolete, the meta-language was outdated in several regards, and a lot of modern words are lacking in the lemma list of the dictionary.
