Metal allergy : Aluminium

Hindsén, Monica LU (2018) p.333-336
Abstract
Aluminium is one of the most abundant metals in the earth’s crust, and aluminium compounds are widely used. Aluminium is considered to be a weak allergen, but contact allergy to aluminium has been more frequently reported in recent years. The most important routes of sensitization to aluminium are aluminium-containing vaccines, hyposensitization with aluminium-adsorbed extracts and contact with aluminium in antiperspirants and other skin products. In this chapter, the literature on aluminium contact sensitization, patch testing and management considerations is reviewed.
