Implications of interorganizational RFID implementation - A case study

Pålsson, Henrik LU (2006) European Logistics Association 10. p.85-100
Abstract
This paper examines an interorganizational implementation process of RFID technology in disposable secondary packaging. It provides unique insights into a real interorganizational, collaborative effort to implement RFID technology in a supply chain. A case study is carried out with a joint development project including three leading companies; a packaging manufacturer, a food manufacturer, and a technology provider. The study identifies characteristics of the relationship and key factors which needed to be considered in implementing RFID. Future research may be directed at the effect of RFID on logistical processes in the supply chain, comparing costs with savings, and follow-up studies of real implementations.
