Step-by-step instruction : Suction-assisted lipectomy procedure with controlled compression therapy

Brorson, Håkan LU orcid (2022) p.141-150
Abstract

There is an increasing body of evidence, based on well-controlled clinical trials and long-term follow-up, that liposuction can result in significant objective and subjective benefit to patients who have long-term chronic primary or secondary lymphedema. There are, however, different views on the immediate, short-, and long-term benefits of liposuction for treating lymphedema, with a strong dichotomy between those who support surgical and conservative treatments. This chapter describes the pathophysiology behind adipose tissue deposition in lymphedema and how liposuction can completely reduce the excess volume.
