Models for friction materials

Ahadi, Aylin LU (1999)
Abstract
The present report gives a general discussion of typical behaviour

and modelling concepts used in soil mechanics. Characteristic

mechanical features for friction materials, such as stress state

dependency, nonlinearity, dilation and anisotropy, are discussed as

well as the factors affecting such features. A short overview of

existing model concepts used in soil mechanics is presented.

Various approaches e.g. elasticity, elasto-plasticity as well as

the micromechanical approach are considered. Several models are

described in details and their limitations and area of application

are discussed.
