Exhibition in Lund, Sweden: Following the fish : films, drawings and full-scale prototypes developed through a workshop-based artistic research project

- Following the Fish—an artistic research project exploring architecture, migration and collective practice through workshop-based methodologies—was presented in 2024 as part of the exhibition UnFold: Exploring Artistic Directions in Architectural Research at Lund University.
The project was developed through a series of workshops across Barcelona, Lund and Venice, engaging with the spatial and social conditions surrounding Senegalese migration. In dialogue with the Top Manta association—the Sindicato Popular de Vendedores Ambulantes—students investigated how architecture can emerge from existing forms of organisation, resistance and everyday practice.

The project was developed through a series of workshops across Barcelona, Lund and Venice, engaging with the spatial and social conditions surrounding Senegalese migration. In dialogue with the Top Manta association—the Sindicato Popular de Vendedores Ambulantes—students investigated how architecture can emerge from existing forms of organisation, resistance and everyday practice.
The work was presented through films and collective drawings. The films document the activation of three full-scale movable prototypes, which reinterpret elements of the urban environment as spatial devices for collective use: metal fence panels are reconfigured into temporary enclosures, a shopping cart becomes a critique of consumer structures, and public space is transformed through the staging of intimate and collective rituals. Through these actions, the prototypes test alternative forms of social interaction and spatial organisation.
The drawings, developed as collective tracing paper rolls, extend these explorations toward architectural proposals. They investigate how the prototypes could be situated within vacant commercial premises in Barcelona, introducing the concept of the Mothership as a spatial framework capable of hosting and extending their activities.
Positioned within the broader context of artistic research in architecture, the project contributes to ongoing discussions on how spatial practice can engage with social conditions such as migration, and how pedagogical formats can operate as sites for the production of knowledge. (Less)
