Untangling Disarray : Patterns in research on standards and standardisation
(2015) Academy of management Annual Meeting, 2015- Abstract
- In this paper we present a two-dimensional framework for analysis of research on standards and standardization and its implications for strategic management. Existing research is organized and analyzed, demonstrating that despite the multifaceted nature of the field, patterns and logics are exposed by applying the suggested theoretical framework - its two analytical dimensions being the level of analysis and the processual stage in standardization. We show that despite the apparent fragmentation, evidence that standards and standardization encompass a coherent field for practitioners and scholars is revealed once contextual aspects are embraced and accounted for. Furthermore, we present gaps and inconsistencies, as well as informative... (More)
