Sweden : Swedish society and football at odds with each other – So open, yet so closed
(2025) p.188-205- Abstract

She argues that racism exists at all various levels ranging from overt racist abuse during matches to online attacks. She proposes that this is partly a reflection of a considerable increase in anti-immigration sentiments, exemplified by the Sweden Democrats (SD), a right-wing populist political party. She also shows that there is a plethora of policies to counter racism and xenophobia. Clubs play a vital role here and they often focus their efforts on socio-economic inequalities and employment as key factors that may help tackle different social problems, including racism and discrimination.
