(2025) In Diakonian tutkimus -aikakauskirja 2025(1). p.30-54- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to reveal how social workers and deacons in Sweden describe and reason their approach to people expressing an experience of shame when in need of food aid. Ten food aid professionals participated in individual semi-structured interviews. Prominent features in the "ndings are three strategies based on argumentation, attitude, and action in the meeting with visitors, and, additionally, a fourth strategy guided by the need for collegial support outside the meeting with the visitors. !e analysis showed that professionals repeatedly deal with experiences of shame among visitors and that they as professionals develop informal strategies to reduce the elements of shame - for the sake of the visitors and for themselves.
