- In this dissertation, the Swedish forestry debate during the last three decades of the 20th century is analysed. The contents, values and underlying assumptions of the debate are investigated from a discoursive point of view. Ideals, methods and aesthetics are analysed, as they have been expressed throughout the debate. Modernity's focus on uniformity, order and culturalisation of nature is contrasted to the ideals of the environmental movement. In the central case study of the dissertation, the fight between environmentalists and forest owners in Njakafjäll, is described and discussed. I denna avhandling analyseras den svenska skogsbruksdebatten under nittonhundratalets tre sista decennier. De ideal och värderingar som genom det moderna skogsbrukets ideologi och praktik kom att råda i skogarna utmanades av miljörörelsen från sextiotalet och framåt. Till en början stod skogsnäringen och miljörörelsen mycket långt från varandra, men under nittiotalet började man närma sig varandra mer och mer. Den centrala fallstudien i avhandlingen handlar om Njakafjäll i Västerbotten, där miljörörelsen under många år kämpat för att förhindra avverkningen av en allmänningsägd skog. 1997 kom Greenpeace till Njakafjäll och konflikten blev dramatisk och rörde om i hela bygden.
