Svenska jordnaturer 1718–1865 : En kvantitativ översikt

Lindgren, Mattias LU (2021) In Lund Papers in Economic History
Abstract
The legal status of land had important consequences in pre-industrial societies, and Sweden was no different. Here land was broadly divided into the three categories of free-hold, crown land and noble land, which, in turn, were divided into several sub-categories, each with its own legal and practical consequences. In this paper I present, for the first time, a comprehensive dataset for 17 such sub-categories, for the period 1718-1865. The data describe how much of the land, in terms of tax-assessment units (mantal), belonged to each of these categories. The data is a based on a synthesis of the existing data compilations already available. The data, available for download, also include detailed meta-data that describe the source for each... (More)

The data, available for download, also include detailed meta-data that describe the source for each observation. The data will, amongst other things, allow us to estimate the size of electorate to the farmers estate and give a more detailed picture of the rise of the farmer class. (Less)
