Analyzing perceived safety and self-reported accidents in public transit
(2008) p.193-208- Abstract
- Sustainable and safe mobility is crucial for society in general and for the various road users in particular. An important tool in order to achieve traffic safety improvements is the analysis of self-reported data, when no other sources are available. This chapter will present a framework to be considered, when approaching self-reported accidents and injuries. Throughout the text, the concept of perceived safety remains a key issue. To begin with, some important theories are reviewed. Based on previously gathered empirical data, the proposed framework will be presented. It outlines three dimensions of perceived safety: the technical dimension, the social dimension, and the discursive dimension.
