Global Asylum Governance and the European Union's Role : Rights and Responsibility in the Implementation of the United Nations Global Compact on Refugees
Carrera, Sergio ; Karageorgiou, Eleni LU ; Ovacık, Gamze and Feith Tan, Nikolas (2024) In International Perspectives on Migration 18.- Abstract
- The overarching research question that the Volume seeks to answer is the following: What are the characteristics and impacts of emerging international and regional asylum governance, and what are their implications on the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR)’s implementation, which calls for more equitable and effective arrangements for responsibility sharingResponsibility sharing? This is an especially pressing question considering the complexity that the GCR adds to an already complex landscape of norms and actors. Its lack of legal ‘bindingness’ and its open-textured nature makes a comparison of implementation dynamics across different regions, in light of current and future asylum and international protection regimes, necessary and timely.
