Interaction of Ferrocene Mediators with Gluconobacter oxydans Immobilized Whole Cells and Membrane Fractions in Oxidation of Ethanol

- Gluconobacter oxydans whole cells and membrane fractions in combination with ferrocene mediators were used to study oxidation of ethanol. The efficiency of mediator?enzyme interaction was assessed by the ratio of maximum current to the apparent Michaelis constant (Imax/KM) for saturating mediator concentrations. The bioelectrocatalytic processes were found to be more efficient with membrane fractions. The highest Imax/KM value of 120 and 3200 mu A g/mol for, respectively, cells and fractions was obtained for ferrocene carboxylic acid.
